Masked pair attack security guard to grab cash at shops
Masked men attacked a security guard and snatched a cash box as he made his way back to his van at a Finglas shopping centre yesterday.
The incident happened at Charlestown Shopping Centre at lunchtime as the security worker was walking out of the main doors, with shoppers and children nearby.
As he made his way out of the St Margaret's Road exit, two masked men in black tackled him and grabbed the cash box.
Witnesses said the two had yelled at the security guard to hand the box over.
One of the raiders is believed to have ended up on the ground as they struggled.
They ran to a waiting car or van driven by a third man.
It then drove away in the direction of the M50. No one was injured in the incident.
Finglas gardai are investigating yesterday's daylight raid and have interviewed witnesses as well as collecting CCTV footage from the area.
The suspected getaway vehicle, a silver Vauxhall believed to have been used in the robbery, was later found burnt out in the Kilshane Cross area.
No arrests have yet been made in relation to the robbery and investigations are ongoing to identify those involved.
It is the latest in a spate of robberies of cash in transit in the Finglas area.
The most recent happened in the Ballygall Road area in March when a raider made off with a cash box after threatening a security worker with a length of lead pipe.
