Marathon man Mark will join Olympic Torch team
THE first Irish sportsman to qualify for this year's Olympics will carry the Torch through Dublin on June 6.
Marathon runner Mark Kenneally, who qualified for the London Games last October, will be among the Torchbearers chosen to represent Trinity College Dublin.
Natalya Coyle and Aine Ni Choisdealbha will also carry the Torch through the city as part of its 70-day journey before the Games.
Natalya, a student of business, economics and social studies, is on course for qualification in the Modern Pentathlon.
Mark, a PhD physiology student, said: "This is a huge honour for me to be given this opportunity to carry the Olympic Flame in my own home town. Having qualified for the Olympics, it is an extra special year for me participating in the Olympic Torch Relay."
Meanwhile, Aine, who is studying for a MSc in neuroscience, was last year awarded a prestigious Trinity Gold Medal for results in her psychology degree. The campaigner for social issues affecting young women has also been involved in the programme which provides tuition for children from disadvantaged areas of Dublin.
The Torch will travel through more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages across the UK and Ireland in the run-up to the Games.
