GARDAI are continuing to question two people after a man had his throat slashed in a city centre laneway in broad daylight.
The victim, from Limerick city, remains in a critical condition in hospital following yesterday's attack in Limerick.
It is understood he was attacked by a man he had been drinking with in the hours before the incident.
After staggering a short distance, the man - aged in his mid 20s - collapsed in a pool of blood on Parnell Street in front of shocked shoppers.
His condition was described as "critical but stable" and he is receiving round-the-clock treatment at the Mid-Western Regional hospital in Limerick.
The fight broke out at around 3.30pm in Lady's Lane and the man was slashed across his throat during the brawl.
Gardai arrested a man and woman - both aged in their 20s - at a property in Upper Cecil Street shortly after the attack. It is believed they are from Limerick and known to the gardai.
They are being held and questioned at Henry Street and Roxboro Garda Stations.
