A South American man who sold everything he owned in order to bring cocaine to Ireland and make money for his family has been jailed for three and a half years.
Gordon Plass (41) was stopped at Dublin Airport and found to have swallowed 55 pellets of cocaine.
The combined weight of 556g of cocaine had a market value at the time of e38,920.
Plass, of no fixed abode here, pleaded guilty to importing cocaine at Dublin Airport on February 2, 2012.
Judge Martin Nolan backdated a sentence of three and a half years to February.

New York officials have found suspicious wires in a toilet on board a flight that was returned to Kennedy International airport, but no explosive device was found.
Officials are questioning a male and female passenger about them.
New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said Delta Flight 126 bound for Madrid was returned to the gate and evacuated after a report of a suspicious device aboard.

Rapper Beanie Sigel has been sentenced in Philadelphia to two years in prison for failing to file federal income tax returns.
The 38-year-old, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty in August.
Prosecutors say Sigel owes more than $700,000 (e573,611) for the tax years between 1999 and 2005.
Sigel also has served time on drug and weapons charges and for prescription drug use while on federal probation.
