Man jailed for hospital burglary

A BURGLAR who stole four sets of keys from a Dublin hospital after breaking in at night has been jailed for eight months.

Brian Treacy (36) had a pair of scissors on him when gardai arrested him.

Judge Bryan Smyth sentenced him.

Treacy, of Ardmore Drive, Artane, pleaded guilty to burglary, unlawful possession of scissors and stealing four sets of keys at the Mater Hospital on April 3 last.

Dublin District Court heard gardai were called to the hospital at 3.35am after the accused entered a part of the building that was closed at night.

He was in possession of the keys when arrested.

Treacy did not seem to know what the keys were actually for, his lawyer said.

He had 41 previous convictions for offences including aggravated burglary and robbery.

Treacy was intoxicated on the night and was in the hospital out of "opportunity".
