Man found lying in road unconscious

A MAN found unconscious with head injuries at a Dublin industrial estate may have been the victim of a serious assault.

Gardai were today trying to establish what happened to the 27-year-old, who was discovered by security staff at 5am on the roadway at Newtown Industrial Estate in Coolock.

The victim, of Polish origin, was today in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital.

Gardai said the man was employed in one of the units in the estate. Sources said that he may have been on route to his workplace.

"We had no report of any disturbance in the vicinity and have sealed off the area for forensic examination," said a garda officer.

Gardai appealed to any member of the public who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them at Coolock station, 01 6664200.

Meanwhile, in Limerick a 48-year-old man was fighting for his life today after being assaulted at his home at Hyde Road, Prospect.

Joseph (Joey) O'Donnell was found unconscious with serious head wounds at around 10am yesterday. He is in a critical condition at the Mid Western Regional Hospital.

A 22-year-old man was arrested by Roxboro Road gardai investigating the incident.
