Man fined for giving false name to gardai
A DUBLIN man gave gardai a false name in a show of "drunken belligerence", a court heard.
Michael Cunningham (49) had been drinking on the street when gardai approached him.
Judge Denis McLoughlin convicted and fined him €50.
The defendant, of Casement Park in Finglas, was drinking from an open can at St Nicholas Place, Dublin 8 when gardai spoke to him.
They asked for his name and he said it was "John". He failed to give officers his address or date of birth.
Defence solicitor Stephen O'Mahony said this incident took place near a homeless hostel where Mr Cunningham had been living.
He is now in rented accommodation, no longer drinking on the street and trying to curtail his alcohol consumption.
