Man fined for abusing gardai near fight scene
A REVELLER turned on gardai and told them to "f**k off" after they stopped him to question him about an altercation in a pub, a court heard.
Jonathan Gormley (31) denied that he knew anything about the pub fight, saying he didn't have "a clue" about what was going on.
Judge John Coughlan convicted and fined Gormley €500.
The defendant, with an address at The Close, Melrose Park in Kinsealy, admitted before Swords District Court to threatening and abusive behaviour.
The incident, contrary to the public order act, took place at Main Street in Swords on May 15 last.
Garda Daniel Rogers said gardai received a report about an altercation in a public house. On the way to the scene, they stopped and spoke to the defendant as they believed he might know about the incident.
Gda Rogers said Gormley became verbally abusive, telling gardai to "f**k off".
Gda Rogers said Gormley also told them to "f**k off, I've not a clue about what was going on".
Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said Gormley works as a tyre changer, and was sorry for his behaviour towards officers.
Judge Coughlan also assigned Ms D'Arcy on free legal aid.
