Man facing trial over pharmacy robbery

A MAN who allegedly entered a pharmacy with his face covered and demanded cash from a sales assistant is facing trial.

Stephen Reilly (33) allegedly forced the assistant to open the till and took €93.

The accused, of Harbour Court, Mullingar, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with robbery at O'Regan's Pharmacy, Old Bawn Shopping Centre, Tallaght, last May 24.

The court heard the DPP has directed summary disposal of the matter in the district court.

Outlining the allegation for jurisdiction purposes, Sgt Bernard Jones said Mr Reilly came into the pharmacy with a hoodie over his head and his face partially covered.

He alleged that Mr Reilly demanded cash from the shop assistant, forced her to open the till and stole €93 in cash.

Sgt Jones claimed that the victim believed Mr Reilly had a weapon and she was in considerable fear.

The court heard that Mr Reilly did not have a weapon.

Judge John Coughlan refused jurisdiction of the matter, meaning the accused will face trial in the Circuit Court.

The judge adjourned the case to January for the book of evidence.
