Man faces trial on €13k drugs charge
A MAN has been sent for trial charged with possession of more than €13,000 worth of cannabis.
Martin Whelan (31) had a book of evidence served at Blanchardstown District Court.
Mr Whelan, of Barryscourt Road, Coolock, is charged with having more than €13,000 worth of cannabis with intent to sell or supply.
The charge is under Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and the offence is alleged to have happened at Oldchurch Avenue, Clondalkin on February 25 last. A State solicitor said the DPP was directing trial on indictment.
Judge McHugh gave the defendant the formal warning that he must provide to the prosecution within 14 days details of any alibi he intends to rely on.
The judge ordered a copy of the video of the accused's garda interview to be furnished to the defence.
He granted free legal aid, extending this to cover both senior and junior counsel, at the request of Mr Whelan's barrister, Jennifer Jackson.
The judge said he was satisfied this was appropriate given the seriousness of the charge.
He then sent Mr Whelan forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
