A TEENAGE boy who was hit by a car in Dublin was in a critical condition yesterday.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses after the 13-year-old, who was walking with another boy at Carpenterstown Road, was struck by the vehicle.

The accident happened at around 8.30pm on Sunday night near the local shopping centre.

The boy was hit by a black BMW 5 Series which remained at the scene. He was taken to Temple Street Hospital where his condition was described as critical but stable.

Meanwhile, a father of two died after he was hit by a car while talking with a neighbour near his home in Connemara.

Mairtin McGrath, who was in his early 40s, was struck near his home at Cill Chiarain, Co Galway, at 11am yesterday.

Mr McGrath, a married man, died at the scene. The elderly driver of the car stopped immediately and was said to be in shock .
