M7 trawled in hunt for raiders' shotguns
A SECTION of the M7 motorway has been searched in an attempt to locate two shotguns used by thugs who terrorised a couple and their young daughters.
It comes as the period of detention for the seven suspects was extended after a special court sitting.
They can be held under legislation for a maximum of three days without charge.
Officers sealed off a northbound lane between two junctions on the motorway as they searched for the weapons.
They believe the shotguns, as well as balaclavas, were thrown out of one of the getaway cars as the raiders were being pursued. by garda.
The suspects were apprehended after gardai discovered two cars which were being used by the gang after they held up Mark and Emma Corcoran at their home at Burnchurch, outside Killenaule, Co Tipperary, on Thursday.
The seven suspects from north Dublin, two of whom are out on bail in relation to other serious offences, are being questioned at garda stations throughout Tipperary.
Last night, a court granted the Garda an extension to the period of their detention.
