Lovers leap into marriage as Linda pops question

LOVE was on the line for Frank Redmond who got a unique wake-up call this morning when he was whisked to the airport and proposed to by his girlfriend.

Carphone Warehouse worker Frank from Donaghmede was stunned when his girlfriend Linda Matthews took advantage of the Leap Year tradition and popped the question.

The couple, who both work at the mobile phone company, are just one of three competing for a €5,000 honeymoon package from Tour America.

The event called Taking the Leap at the Loop started this morning around 8am when a member of the Spin 1038 team met Frank at his Dublin home.

"Frank, your girlfriend is at the airport with your passport, and you're coming with me," was the only information the potential groom was given before being whisked away.

Frank was then taken through security blindfolded, as though he were about to get on a flight.

He was then greeted by Ryan Phillips and Tracy Clifford from the Fully Charged show on Spin FM who first told him he was going on a tour of the new terminal before taking him to the Loop.

They pointed out to him the rose petals on their path, which were blue and white -- the colours of Frank's favourite football team, Manchester City.

As Frank started to get anxious, Linda, from Coolock, who was nervously waiting for him in front of the chapel, was revealed.

Linda was too shaken to go down on one knee and take out Frank's engagement ring but she did manage to ask him to marry her shortly after 8.30am.

Despite his nerves, Frank didn't hesitate to accept her proposal.

A cardboard chapel, reminiscent of popular Las Vegas wedding venues, complete with a tribute Elvis act, was set up in the airport's shopping area, The Loop, so that three determined women could pop the question in romantic surroundings. The second proposal was due around midday today and the third one at 5pm.
