Louise's fashion profits up by €371k

The fashion firm owned by Dublin-based designer Louise Kennedy enjoyed a stellar year in 2013 with profits jumping by €371,173.

Ms Kennedy - whose customers include Kylie, Beyonce and Meryl Streep - is currently planning further expansion in the UK after her Signum Ltd's accumulated profits jumped from €785,096 to €1.156m in the 12 months to the end of December 2013.

During the same period, the firm's cash pile increased from €679,270 to €936,687.

Ms Kennedy (inset) has been one of Ireland's most successful designers over the past three decades and the profit jump in 2013 followed profits increasing by €471,980 in 2012.

This follows accumulated profits increasing by 88pc or €146,963 to €313,116 in 2011.

"The financial year 2013 brought stable growth in turnover and operating profits in both the Irish and UK markets. The brand celebrated 30 years in design with a highly-acclaimed fashion spectacle during September 2013 at The Hugh Lane Gallery," a spokesman for Signum Ltd said yesterday.

"2013 also saw the launch of the Louise Kennedy luxury scent and handbag. This expansion of the brand has introduced the design house to new markets and customers."

The Louise Kennedy group currently employs more than 26 people between Ireland and the UK.

"While the brand has attained international recognition, Louise continues to carry out all her design work from her studio in Dublin and product distribution is managed from a logistics centre in Tipperary," the spokesman added.

He said that revenues are broadly generated evenly between Ireland and the UK, with other markets, such as the US and the Far East, growing in significance through on-line retail and special orders.
