London was tough, but I'm settled now - DJ Cici

JET-SETTING DJ Cici Cavanagh has the world at her feet, dividing her time between London and Ibiza while fitting in some flying visits to family and friends in Dublin.

But the 23-year old, who moved to the English capital last November, has admitted she found it difficult to adjust in the first six months.

And she said she struggled to keep her "head above the water".

"London is a very tough city where it kind of takes a while to adjust - I found it quite difficult to begin with," she said.

The rising star, who first appeared on Irish screens in RTE reality series Fade Street, said it was a challenge to become established in a highly-competitive and male-dominated industry.

"The first six months were really tough," she told the Herald.

"It was very hard to try and make an impact in the industry without having regular work from the start and not knowing anyone."

However, the part-time model feels much more at home in London these days.

And she said she has a strong network of Irish friends from her childhood based there.

"Finally I'm settled, and some of my closest friends in London are people who I grew up with in Ireland," she said.

This summer will see the Palmerstown DJ make a further name for herself in the music industry when she plays two of her highest-profile gigs to date, as well as appearing at a number of festivals across the UK and Ireland.

"I'll be performing at Love Box and Global Gathering - they're probably the biggest crowds I will have played in front of," she said. "The nerves are starting to kick in but I'm excited."

On her flying visit to Dublin, Cici managed to fit in a couple of catch- ups with her former castmates from Fade Street.

"I was with Dani Robinson in the Bernard Shaw pub watching Brazil play Germany and I caught up with Louise Johnston last weekend too," she said.

"Of course, Vogue Williams lives in London as well, but it's hard to get catch-ups organised with our schedules."
