Little Louth is luckiest for EuroMillions
Louth is the place to be if you fancy adding some serious zeros to your bank balance. The county has been revealed as the luckiest when it comes to scooping the big prizes in the EuroMillions Lottery.
According to the National Lottery, the smallest county in Ireland is also the most fortunate, per head of population, when it comes to winners. Twenty five people have won almost €7m in prize money since the draw started in 2004.
Given its tiny population, it means one person in just over 5,000 has won a prize in Co Louth.
Coming a close second is Mayo, which has claimed 23 EuroMillions winners, who collectively won €51m, which equates to one in every 5,700 people.
In third place was Limerick, which is home to Dolores McNamara, whose €115m win back in 2005 is still the largest individual windfall for anyone in the region. The jackpot has been won there by 34 people, who have claimed a total of €134.5m, which brings its win rate to one in every 5,732 people.
In fourth place comes Dublin, which has seen 223 lucky players winning money in the draw, sharing in a whopping €581m between them. That's the equivalent of one in every 6,042 people
The most recent big win for the capital was the Naul family syndicate who hit headlines after their €175m windfall in February.
Tomorrow night will see an 'Ireland-Only Raffle' taking place which means that one fortunate player will be a million richer.
