Kinsale put on Shark alert as adland's finest gather for prestigious awards

Kinsale will welcome adlanders from near and far in September as the Cork seaside town hosts the 52nd annual Sharks awards.

Like the Cannes Lions, the festival is a showcase for the world's best creative work. Agency copywriters and art directors along with production companies get to see great ads, discuss the latest trends and enjoy some craic.

Al Jazeera's head of media and PR Osama Saeed will speak about the art of storytelling at the festival's Friday workshop.

Saeed's PR career began in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks when as a university student he was called into a TV studio in Scotland to make sense of the atrocity. Two years later, he was a volunteer organiser and publicist for the protests in London against the Iraq war.

DELEGATES

A team from music publisher Warner/Chappell will explain to Sharks delegates how music can spark ideas.

As part of Warner Music's global network, its stable includes the likes of Barry Gibb, Paolo Nutini, Burt Bacharach and 12-year-old rapper Akai.

British freelance writer and producer Paul Burke will speak about the secret to creating award-winning radio ads.

Free thinking with technology is the theme for BBH's digital expert Alex Matthews. Joel Templin will talk about the inspiration for great design. His clients include Apple, American Eagle, Levi's and Coca-Cola.

The festival's entries deadline has been extended to this Friday.

The Sharks runs from September 11-13.
