MUSIC legend Kanye West and his celebrity TV star wife Kim Kardashian opted for a honeymoon here after Kim’s mother regaled them with stories of how much she enjoyed her own Irish honeymoon.
The couple jetted into Ireland for a secret honeymoon after their lavish Italian wedding and are now staying at the luxurious Castlemartyr Resort in east Cork.
Castlemartyr has refused all comment on the matter in accordance with resort policy. However, local children have swarmed to the hotel in a bid of getting a photograph or an autograph of their idols.
The couple arrived by private Embraer jet at Cork Airport at 3pm yesterday and were met by a fleet of limousines.
The jet cost over €30m and is used as Kanye’s personal transport.
They were then whisked off for a five-day honeymoon which is expected to include at least a day in Dublin.
Both are expected to tour some of Ireland’s most famous tourist attractions.
But their 11-month-old baby North was nowhere to be seen as Kim (33) and Kanye (36) wanted some alone time as newlyweds.
Their adorable daughter is being minded by Kardashian momager’ Kris Jenner for their week-long sojourn, and they are believed to be residing in Paris.
Kanye will be attending one of his close pal’s weddings this weekend in Paris and Jenner has been tasked with caring for the tot in the City of Light before the couple jet home for a reunion.
In Cork, the pair were accompanied by their personal assistants and bodyguards and are expected to remain in Ireland until Friday when they plan to jet back to the US to continue their honeymoon.
Kim Kardashian had personally dictated the details of the wedding ceremony which took place at the picturesque Forte di Belvedere in Florence.
Both exchanged their vows at sunset in front of a small group of family and friends.
Kim wore a full-length white gown by Givenchy but when it came time to party at the reception, she changed into a white, beaded mini-dress.
There have been no official photographs of the wedding yet, but some pictures have emerged on social networking sites.
The high profile couple had been expected to spend a week touring around Italy but they took the celebrity world entirely by surprise with their decision to select Cork for their honeymoon.
Castlemartyr Resort was once a convent but it was transformed into a six star hotel following a lavish redevelopment under the Capella brand.
It was then operated under the Dromoland brand before emerging as an independent luxury resort three years ago.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian became the latest in a long list of stars who opted for the privacy of an Irish holiday over the glitz of Italy or the south of France.
Castlemartyr has already played host to a legion of stars over the past few years including music legends Jay-Z and Beyonce.
The resort also hosted Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band last summer when they played a concert at Pairc Ui Chaiomh.
