Katherine Gannon hoping 'happy is healthy' message will help win model crown

Model Katherine Gannon is gearing up to represent Ireland in the World Supermodel Pageant in Fiji this month and says she wants to follow in the footsteps of former Miss World Rosanna Davison.

Katherine (23) is set for a jam-packed few weeks as she flies to Mexico to film a TV show about the pageant and then on to Fiji for the competition itself.

"The pageant is pretty much the same as the Miss Universe or Miss World competitions, there'll be girls from all over the world representing their countries and I have the Irish title," Katherine told the Diary.

Challenges

"There'll be lots of activities, lots of sports challenges, an underwater shoot and a desert island shoot and we'll even be going to a school to meet the local children."

But first, the girls are jetting off to Cancun in Mexico to film a television show about the pageant.

"I'm really looking forward to filming the TV show because it's all about the modelling industry and body image. I have a 'healthy is happy' kind of attitude and that's what the show is about so I'm really excited about that," she revealed.

As it is an international competition, the Galway beauty has been preparing for weeks.

"I have a personal trainer with the Look Academy who does one-on-one sessions with me," she said.

"As far as diet goes, I've been trying to eat healthily, I drink lots of pure juices and I try to eat lots of fruit and vegetables."

But she does admit that she's a little nervous about heading over to the pageant on her own.

"I'm a bit nervous but I'm more excited. I'm kind of going on my own, but I'm going with the UK girls and travelling with them," she said.

"I've been chatting to them on Facebook so I'm very happy that we have that little group.

"I can't wait to head over to Fiji. I'm so excited and I'm visiting my family in Australia on the way home," she added.

Katherine, who has been modelling since she was just 13-years-old, says she would love to take after former Miss World, Rosanna Davison.

"I've met her before and she's just so down to earth and I think it's amazing that she's done so many different things for a pageant girl," she said.

"She's done Miss World and she's done Playboy.

"She's also got a degree and I always made a point to put my education first," she added.
