Joy as sister Assisium celebrates a century

FRIENDS, colleagues and staff came together for the 100th birthday celebrations of celebrated Sr Assisium Skelly earlier this week.

Sr Assisium, a resident at the McAuley Nursing Home in Beaumont, entered The Sisters of Mercy aged 19 in 1930.

In 1936, she qualified as a primary school teacher and has taught in schools on Cork Street and Baggot Street.

Following her degree from UCD, she lectured in English at Carysfort Training College. In later years, she served as Superior in Ballyroan until 1999 when she retired.
