Journalism award for baby-grave historian
Historian Catherine Corless will receive a special journalism award for her part in uncovering a mass grave on the site of a former Mother and Baby Home.
The one-off trophy, which will be presented at the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards, will honour her painstaking research into the grave in Tuam, Co Galway.
The grueseome discovery prompted the launch of a statutory commission of investigation into the burial of infants at the site.
Speaking about the award, NewsBrands Ireland chairman Vincent Crowley said: "This special award is in recognition of Catherine's vital part in unearthing both the tragedy and the extent of what had happened."
The award will be presented to the Galway historian at the Mansion House on Thursday.
