Job fears over Pfizer

CONCERN has emerged for the future of up to 180 jobs at the pharmaceutical company Pfizer in Co Cork.

It follows a 19pc drop in profits in the first quarter of 2012, due to falling global sales of its cholesterol drug Lipitor, which has come off patent in the US and in Europe.

Pfizer said net profit was $1.8bn (¤1.4bn) in the first three months of the year, compared with $2.2bn (¤1.7b) a year earlier

Pfizer has invested more than €5.5bn in Ireland and employs 4,000 people here.
