Jail after man fails to pay €2k

A YOUNG man who caused over €2,000 worth of damage to a hotel bedroom has been sentenced to three months in prison.

Patrick Timmons (22) was given a year and a half to save compensation for the damage he caused, but he failed to pay a single penny.

Judge Anthony Halpin said Timmons had been "dragging his heels".

Judge Halpin said that if Timmons had saved €10 a week in the last 18 months he would have nearly €1,000 in compensation for the court.

Timmons, of Crumlin Road in Crumlin, had previously admitted to a charge of criminal damage.

The incident took place at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Street Lower, Dublin 2, on February 10, 2010.
