It's a family affair as top model Jayne follows in the footsteps of her mum

Model Jayne Higgins has revealed that while modelling has its perks and she has a great lifestyle, she's not ready to enter the league of the super-rich just yet.

Jayne (22) graduated from college this summer and promptly moved to Dublin where she has worked for the Andrea Roche Modelling Agency.

But she now lives in London with fellow model Holly Carpenter.

"What you get paid depends on a lot of things - what the job is, who it is for and how much experience you have and how in demand you are," she said.

Rent

"There is no set fee for a job and every client is different. It keeps paying my rent in Dublin and I'm lucky that I can stand on my own two feet. I can't really complain."

The modelling industry has had a lot of bad press over the years because of the pressure on young models to look their best and stay super-slim.

But Jayne insists she doesn't feel any pressure and enjoys a healthy lifestyle.

"I would be the type of person who always wants to look after myself and look my best, whether I was modelling or not," she said.

"I would get my nails and my hair done regularly and I go to the gym three times a week. It's not something I do because I am in this industry, but because it makes me feel good about myself," she added.

Jayne originally wanted to work in PR but that all changed when she spent a week on work experience for Cathy Martin's Belfast public relations firm.

"It was Belfast Fashion Week and Cathy had me working backstage, helping to dress the models," she said.

"It was a great way to see how it all worked, so that I didn't have any false expectations. It made me want to do it," she added.

Her mum Kate is also a model and advised her about the industry.

"Of course, I talked to mum about it. She never pushed me into it - she left it up to me to decide if I wanted to do it," she said.

"Obviously, because of her experience, she advised me very well and was very helpful.

"I can't imagine doing it without her behind me."

Her career has blossomed since diving into the modelling industry,

"I've done the Lifestyle Sports Christmas billboard campaign for all of Ireland and I'm also doing a campaign for Easi Lock Hair Extensions, which will be going on billboards across the UK."
