Irishman faces €5m drugs rap

An Irishman has allegedly been caught in Venezuela with 33 kilos of cocaine with a street value of more than €5m.

John Twell (below) faces a minimum of 10 years in prison in one of the South American country's toughest jails.

The 49-year-old was arrested at the end of last week at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia, near the South American country's capital of Caracas.

He is now under the custody of the Prosecutor's Office of the state of Vargas, where the Maiquetia Airport is situated.



McGuinness is FF favourite

THE LATE Brian Lenihan's former running mate David McGuinness has emerged as the favourite to run in the Dublin West by-election.

The Fianna Fail councillor is one of five party members vying for nomination at the selection convention which will be held tomorrow.

The now decimated party is eager to hold on to the only Fianna Fail seat in the capital.
