Irish emergency services made preparations for a major incident yesterday afternoon, as a private jet bound for Shannon Airport suffered a problem with its fuel tank.

The F900 was 40 minutes away from the Co Clare airfield when one of the aircraft's three fuel tanks indicated it was empty at 3pm yesterday afternoon.

Valentia Coastguard confirmed that the Rescue R115 helicopter was alerted to be on standby with backup from three local lifeboats and the Limerick Search and Rescue team.

The private jet- which was carrying six people at the time- landed safely 45 minutes later and no one was injured in the incident.
