Irish business gets a Kickstart
Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has opened to Irish projects.
It is the latest of a series of new entrants to the Irish fundraising market which have dramatically changed small businesses' access to finance.
Crowdfunding - the practice of raising small amounts of money from large numbers of people - has taken off and even drag queen Miss Panti (below) raised €50k for a TV documentary. It allows projects, companies and individuals to use the web for fundraising instead of banks.
Kickstarter is targeted at creative projects and allows groups and individuals to pitch their ideas and raise finance from a community of millions of people.
It is the biggest crowdfunding medium in the world.
