Irish boost IBM patents record
TECH giant IBM topped the US Patent Office's 2012 ranking, with a significant number of patents filed from the company's Irish operations.
The group said that it received a record 6,478 patents last year for inventions that will progress development in analytics, big data, cyber security, cloud, mobile and social networking, among other areas.
Inventors at IBM's Research and Software Development Labs in Ireland were responsible for more than 50 of IBM's global record-setting 2012 US patent tally.
This is the 20th consecutive year that IBM topped the annual list of US patent recipients.
