Ireland short on skilled workers
IRELAND's score on an international skills index has increased fractionally - meaning there are concerns about the shortages of highly-skilled workers in certain key sectors thanks to years of emigration.
The global skills index by specialist recruitment company Hays is an annual report assessing the different dynamics of skilled labour markets across 31 countries.
The report warned of skills shortages across a number of sectors - including IT and construction - worsened by the high level of emigration.
Ireland's overall score has increased to 5.8 out of 10 this year, up from 5.5 last year. But the closer you get to 10 the less skilled workers there are.
