Intruder rapes young woman in city house
ALERT: Manhunt after latest report of a sex attack
A MANHUNT is under way for a rapist who broke into a south Dublin house and raped a woman.
Gardai are trying to trace a man who carried out the violent attack on the young woman at a property in the Marlfield estate, off the Johnstown Road in Cabinteely, south Dublin, in the early hours of Friday last.
The man reportedly broke into the property and raped the woman inside the house at around 3.30am, the Herald understands. He then fled the scene on foot.
The woman managed to contact a friend after the attack, and the gardai were alerted, but no arrests have been made.
Gardai have launched a manhunt following the incident, which follows another assault on a woman walking at Ballymount Park, Ballymount, south Dublin, three weeks ago.
Locals are on high alert today after the woman was confronted by a man inside the property she was staying at in the estate. Friends of the woman yesterday told the Herald she was "traumatised" by the incident and recovering at home.
Residents on the estate have expressed their shock at the woman's ordeal.
One female resident told the Herald: "The girl went through an awful time. It's such a lovely estate but people have recently been concerned with the amount of strangers walking through."
It is one of four incidents reported in the space of a few weeks in south Dublin.
Local TD Richard Boyd Barrett told the Herald this morning residents need to look out for each other to ensure more attacks don't occur.
"I would encourage everybody to keep an eye out for neighbours. This is a horrific thing to happen to the woman involved," he said.
Gardai are conducting a thorough investigation into Friday's attack. Anybody with information can contact the confidential line on 1800 666 111.
