In Brief: Woman's head cut in struggle

A DUBLIN woman who held on when a man tried to snatch her handbag fell to the ground when the strap snapped, a court heard.

Mark Dillon (33), of Valeview Crescent in Finglas, appeared at Blanchardstown District Court charged with robbery.

The alleged incident took place at Church Street in Finglas on January 10.

The matter was adjourned.



11,000 moved after wildfire

A fast-growing wildfire in Colorado forced 11,000 people from their homes and threatened popular summer camping grounds.

The blaze in the Pike National Forest, known as the Waldo Canyon Fire, has consumed about 2,500 acres (1,012 hectares).

Of those evacuated in Colorado, about 6,200 people were cleared from Manitou Springs, which is often used as a base for travel to Pikes Peak.



Utah fire forces road closure

a fire in Utah pushed thousands of people from their homes and forced a 24km road closure.

The exact cause of the fire was under investigation, although Interagency Fire Center spokesman Don Carpenter said it was caused by arson.

Officials estimated 2,500 people had been evacuated but said it was hard to give a precise number because the fire had spread so rapidly.
