In Brief: TD's son faces car charges

THE son of a Fianna Fail TD is due before a court sitting today in connection with the theft of a stolen car.

Peter Fleming (22), son of Laois Offaly TD Sean Fleming, is due to make a bail application at Limerick District Court.

Fleming, with an address at 4 The Shambles, Market Square, Tullamore, Co Offaly has been charged with four counts of dangerous driving at the Old Dooradoyle Road in Limerick city on January 26 last. He also faces a charge of unauthorised taking of a vehicle from The Bridge Centre, Tullamore, Co Offaly.



Fighter jet lost during training

US AND Italian aircraft searched the Adriatic Sea after losing contact with an American fighter jet during a training mission last night.

The headquarters of the 31st Fighter Wing, at Aviano Air Base, issued a brief statement saying the F-16 fighter had one pilot aboard when contact was lost.

There was no immediate word on the fate of the plane or the pilot. Italian aircraft and boats were helping in the search.



Yahoo records gain in revenue

YAHOO got a little healthier during the last three months of 2012, as the long-suffering internet company took advantage of higher ad prices and more money coming in from overseas investments to deliver numbers that exceeded analyst forecasts.

The results covered Yahoo's first full quarter under CEO Marissa Mayer, who was lured away from Google in mid-July.

Although Yahoo is still not keeping pace with the growth of the internet ad market, the company did produce its first gain in revenue since 2008.



Crackdown on crime in Haiti

SIXTY-TWO people, including six gang leaders, were arrested in a massive operation led by Haiti's national police force in two densely populated neighbourhoods in the capital of Port-au-Prince.

The operation involved more than 125 police officers and more than 350 United Nations soldiers.

It was carried out in response to a surge in shootings, rapes and gang activity in the Delmas 2 and Bel Air neighbourhoods.
