In Brief: Speedy theft of Travolta's Merc

John Travolta's vintage Mercedes sports car has been stolen.

The actor parked the the 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280-SL on a residential street in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon and stopped in at a nearby Jaguar dealership for just 10 minutes.

When he returned, he found an empty parking spot and no sign of the car.

It's not known if the theft was captured on video or whether the thief had followed Travolta or just came upon the vehicle.

The Grease star had the keys with him at the time of the theft, US police said.



MTV awards nod for Adele

Adele could make up for losing out on the Mercury Prize after being nominated for a string of MTV Europe Music Awards.

The star was nominated for the best female award and best video and best song for her hit Rolling In The Deep.

The singer, who lost out to PJ Harvey for the Mercury, also gets a nod for the best UK and Ireland act.

Lady Gaga gets the most nominations, with six.



Wrigley to sell skyscraper HQ

The Wrigley Building, a noted Chicago skyscraper, has been sold by the chewing gum company that gives the building its name.

The Wm Wrigley Jr Co announced the building has been sold to the Chicago-based investment firm of BDT Capital Partners.

Wrigley announced plans to relocate 250 employees from the white terracotta-clad offices. The buyers are seeking landmark status for the 90-year-old building.



Pirates caught in chase at sea

Malaysian authorities have arrested six Indonesian pirates who tried to rob three merchant vessels off the country's southern coast.

The Indonesians fled after they were spotted on Sunday trying to board a vessel by a patrol unit but were detained after a 10-minute chase.

Pirate attacks off the southern coast have eased after seven Indonesians detained in March were sentenced to 12 years in jail and whipped.
