A man (20) who was found hiding in a Coolock attic with a stash of cocaine and tablets has been arrested by gardai.
Members of the Coolock District Drugs Unit searched the house at Clonshaugh Rise in the Priorswood area as part of a planned operation. The cocaine seized had an estimated street value of €40,000.
In a separate garda raid yesterday on Berkeley Road in Dublin, cannabis herb with a street value of €180,000 was seized. A 25-year-old man Romanian national was due to appear in court today.
Earthquake rocks Italy
AN earthquake has rattled much of north-central Italy, including Milan, but first reports indicate no injuries or major damage.
Italy's National Institute of Geology said the quake had a magnitude of 4.8 and struck shortly before 4pm yesterday.
More than 300 people were killed in 2009 earthquake in L'Aquila in central Italy.
Gang threat to burn brother
A woman wept today as she described how a gang of men threatened to burn her younger brother alive unless she had sex with them.
She was one of six schoolgirls who were allegedly exploited by nine men from the Oxford area in England over eight years.
Girl A, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she was repeatedly raped and sold for sex between 2004 and 2007, when she was aged 12 to 15.
The case continues.
Teen dies in Egypt clashes
Egyptian officials said a teenager has been killed in clashes between protesters and police in the city of Suez on the second anniversary of the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak's regime.
At least 186 people have been injured in clashes around the country.
The clashes came as the country's mainly liberal and secular opposition held rallies across much of Egypt, saying the goals of the 2011 anti-Mubarak pro-democracy uprising have not been met and denouncing Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.
