In Brief: Laptop thief is spared jail

A DUBLIN youth who stole a laptop from a car during a theft spree has been spared a jail sentence.

The 17-year-old boy had pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to the offences.

A positive probation report was given to the court and Judge Bryan Smyth sentenced him to nine months of supervised probation.

He had admitted stealing a laptop worth €1,060 and a satnav system from a car at Marrowbone Lane, Dublin 8 on August 7.

Japan ready to blitz rocket

JAPAN'S defence minister has ordered interceptor missile units to prepare for North Korea's rocket launch next month.

Naoki Tanaka said he had ordered destroyers and mobile missile launchers be readied for deployment to areas near the rocket's planned trajectory.

The Unha-3 rocket is expected to fly over Japan between April 14 and 16.

Six seized in hacker probe

PROSECUTORS in the Dominican Republic say they have detained six suspected members of the Anonymous hacker movement.

Public prosecutor German Vasquez alleges the six, aged between 17 and 23, hacked into government websites.

Defence lawyer Carlos Guerrero says the government has no evidence.
