In brief: Fresh appeal on missing man

GARDAI have issued a fresh appeal for a man who went missing last Monday.

Steven Trainor (28) was last seen in the Smithfield area of Dublin in the early hours of the morning. Gardai are particularly keen to speak to any taxi drivers who may have seen or collected Mr Trainor and travelled in the direction of Howth in north county Dublin between 2am and 4am.

Anybody with information can contact any garda station.



Hunter killed by shot, not bear

A hunter attacked by a grizzly bear in a Montana forest was killed not by the beast, but by a gunshot fired by a companion trying to save him, according to local police.

Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe said Steve Stevenson (39) died of a single gunshot wound to the chest yesterday.

The shot was fired by Ty Bell (20) as he attempted to stop the bear's attack.



Teen on bail for stealing phone

A TEENAGER was charged with stealing a mobile phone from a 12-year-old boy.

The 16-year-old is accused of theft at Gardiner Street, Dublin, on August 8 and possessing another phone, believed to have been stolen, on the same date.

He was remanded on bail and will appear again at Dublin Children's Court in October, when he will also face other charges.
