A CRIMINAL has been jailed for three years after he repeatedly stabbed a sleeping man in the face at a bus shelter.
Heroin addict Damien O'Brien (25) of St Munchin's Street, St Mary's Park, Limerick, attacked his victim last April after he spent the day drinking cans of beer and taking up to 50 relaxant tablets.
Christopher Grace (48) was stabbed seven times at a Mulgrave Street bus stop in Limerick city.
O'Brien admitted to assault causing harm on April 7 last at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.
O'Brien was given a four-year prison sentence with the final year suspended.

Turkish soldiers, air force bombers and helicopter gunships have launched an incursion into northern Iraq, hours after Kurdish rebels killed 24 soldiers and wounded 18 in attacks along the border.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan cancelled a visit to Kazakhstan and announced that Turkey had launched the "hot pursuit" operation, wording that officials often use to describe cross-border offensives in northern Iraq.
"We will never bow to any attack from inside or outside Turkey," he said.

At least 115 insurgents have been killed in ongoing operations in a north-eastern Afghan province known for being a hotbed of foreign militant fighters.
The US-led alliance said the fighting in rugged Kunar province, near the Pakistani, border has been going on since around October 15.
Nato said the coalition and its Afghan partners have killed at least 115 insurgents over the past week to 10 days.
