In Brief: Broadway looks for short actors

Producers are looking for actors, singers and dancers who stand no more than 4ft 11in.

The short stature stars are wanted to fill the shoes of Ralphie and his friends as they prepare a musical version of the classic film A Christmas Story For Broadway.

Performances begin November 6 in New York with an opening night set for November 19. The musical spent much of last year on a national tour.

The show has more than a dozen catchy songs written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.



Man sues plane firms for crash

A man whose wife died when a Nigerian airliner crashed Lagos has served a writ in the United States against American companies that sold the ill-fated plane.

The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Chicago on behalf of David Chukwunonso Allison, from Lagos, whose wife Joy was on the plane that went down on Sunday afternoon



Gang boss (83) is arrested

Prosecutors say Boston-area gang boss Howie Winter, a predecessor of James 'Whitey' as head of the Winter Hill Gang in the 60s and 70s, has been arrested on attempted extortion and conspiracy charges.

The district attorney's office says the 83-year-old Winter and 70-year-old James Melvin were arrested Thursday night.
