Dublin TD Paul Murphy claimed today he was not responsible for comments on his Facebook page which labelled Tanaiste Joan Burton "a hag" and "a witch."
He said he opposes those comments and all such sexist language.
Speaking on Morning Ireland, the Socialist TD said: "I am not responsible for what people put on my Facebook page."
He said that he "did not have time to look after all the comments on my Facebook page. But I am not responsible for what people put on my Facebook page."
The TD said he opposed that sort of language: "I completely oppose that sort of sexist language and anywhere I hear that sort of sexist language, I oppose it.
"But I can't monitor my Facebook page. I am inundated with messages, especially since Saturday."
Mr Murphy said he condemned "certain actions" at the protest on Saturday when the Tanaiste's car was surrounded for two hours by protestors in Jobstown.
