Former Fair City star Claudia Carroll is currently writing book number 13 and says she's "amazed" reading is still so popular.
Her latest book, Meet Me in Manhattan, looks at the world of internet dating and how people are being 'catfished' online.
Her book deal with publisher HarperCollins has been renewed which she says is "so exciting" and her 13th novel is due out early next year.
"There is so much competing for our attention these days, I'm always touched when people come up to me to say they've read my book because there's so much world-class entertainment out there," she told the Herald.
"We're in a golden age of TV. Everything on Netflix is so good and for me to have to abandon my one hour of Orange is the New Black or House of Cards to read would have to be a really good book.
"So it's just so heartening for me to see that people are as passionate about reading books and as passionate about story telling as ever," she added.
Claudia (47) says her "dream holiday" is jetting off with a bag full of books.
"When I'm going away my suitcase would be 90pc books, mostly by my pals that I said I'd read but with baggage regulations and that, the Kindle is so handy," she said.
Claudia was speaking at the launch of The Book Butler at Dublin's Westin Hotel.
The initiative with Eason allows guests to choose from a hand-picked list of books from the top 10 genres as recommended by the store.
"I think this initiative is so wonderful as we have such a rich heritage of writers here, and tourists come here to see our literary hot spots," she said.
