A €3m Lotto win for a syndicate of builders in Dublin will make a real difference in their lives, their boss said today.
The country's latest jackpot winners arrived in work this morning -- the day after finding out they had won the bonanza.
A total of 21 workers from Chadwicks Builders Providers on Thomas Street in Dublin 8 celebrated the win last night. One of the winners, Shay Kelly (51), from Coolock, not content with landing his €146,870 share in the lotto, won another €400 in a lucky numbers draw in his local bookies yesterday.
"I'm a lucky b******," Shay joked when talking to the Herald today.
"We were over the moon with it (the Lotto win)," he said.
Even though the draw was on Saturday, the workers didn't find out until Monday that they had the winning numbers as their ticket was left in Chadwicks over the weekend.
The foreman who checked the ticket in the local Centra on Thomas Street came "screaming down the road" after he found out, Shay revealed.
"It was like we were after winning the World Cup," he said.
Mr Kelly plans to invest some of his new found wealth on a horse.
"I do the harness racing in Portmarnock every Sunday," he said.
But he hasn't decided what he will do with the rest of the money.
"I've not thought about it yet. I have a car but I'm not changing it. It's an old banger but I'm not changing it," Mr Kelly said. The same syndicate already won €12,500 on a previous draw.
Chadwicks Branch manager, Padraic Horgan said he's delighted for his staff.
"It's great -- it's 21 people but it's also 21 families," he told the Herald.
"It will do a lot of good, rather than if it was just one person," Mr Horgan said.
However, not everyone at Chadwicks was among the winners as one unlucky staff member had left the syndicate a few years ago.
It was expected that they would collect their winnings from lotto headquarters this afternoon.
