I'd love a role on Downton, says Love/Hate star Denise
LOVE/HATE actress Denise McCormack is eyeing up a new role -- as a maid on Downton Abbey.
Her character in the hugely popular RTE drama may have been killed off but Denise now wants bigger things.
The TV star, who played the wife of Fran (Peter Coonan), enjoyed a raunchy sex scene with gangland boss Nidge (Tom Vaughan Lawlor) in the second season of the series.
After the pair's love tryst in the back of a jeep, Denise saw her character go over the edge and commit suicide.
She has now been given the nod for her performance as Linda with an IFTA nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role on TV.
"I knew Linda would be killed off, so I felt I'd have to do a really good job playing her, and I put so much into it," she said.
The former Fair City actress has also revealed her big dream is to feature on award-winning costume drama Downton Abbey.
"I was really happy to play Linda, but I'd love to be an Irish housemaid or something on Downton.
"If anything along those lines came up, I'd definitely go after it.
"I want to be part of another serious drama and play gutsy characters."
Denise admits she's nervous ahead of the IFTAs, but feels that landing a nomination is a sign she's finally getting recognised for her hard work.
The Drimnagh native told the Herald: "I am nervous, of course. It's a huge deal in Ireland.
"I'm nervous about being in a room with all the greats who I really admire too. I'd love to have a chat with Michael Fassbender if he goes, he's gorgeous."
