I'd have paid to be in Lock, Stock, admits star Nick Moran

FANS of Guy Ritchie's classic Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels were treated to an insider's glimpse of the escapades on-set of the iconic film last night at the Tivoli Theatre.

Actor Nick Moran, who made his name as card sharp Eddy in the cult film, joined Dave Fanning on stage to chat about life after starring in the break-out film, 17 years after it hit screens.

The crowd were transported to London's East End complete with live performances, and actors stretched out on sunbeds dotted around in the iconic venue.

Those who starred in the film agreed to work for very little and surrendered the rights to any future money the film earned.

Looking back, Moran (40) has no regrets about the paycheck - at the time he was on the dole.

"I'd have done it for nothing. I would have paid money to be in it," he confessed.

He was at the end of a long line of actors to be cast in the role despite a "brilliant" screen test he recalled.

The film catapulted him to stardom. Famously, he turned down a part in the Lord of the Rings because he was unwilling to sign on to the franchise for five years.

Moran spoke of how he is also an award-winning playwright. He penned Telstar, an Olivier-nominated play, based on songwriter Joe Meek which he later adapted for movie screens with Kevin Spacey.

On top of his professional accolades he is also proud of the fact that he once met both the Dali Lama and Hugh Hefner within 12 hours of each other.

Moran was in town to attend the Jameson Cult Film Club screening of his breakout movie as part of this year's Dublin film festival.
