I won’t melt into Dail background

Ruth Coppinger has been handed her greatest opportunity yet of securing a Dail seat - but she does not like to admit it.

The Socialist candidate is taking advantage of a deep sense of disillusionment among the electorate.

However, her challenge is trying to pick up transfers in a highly competitive field.

Ms Coppinger (inset), who currently works in Leinster House for Socialist TD Joe Higgins, finished third in the Dublin West by-election in 2011.

She secured only 200 fewer votes than Fianna Fail’s David McGuinness.

She insists that the so-called recovery is nothing more than a “figment of imagination” for voters in Dublin West.

“People are really disillusioned because the people they trusted to hold back from the excesses of Fianna Fail didn’t do that,” Ms Coppinger said. “Fine Gael and Labour have broken every promise.

“If I’m elected, I won’t be melting into the furniture of Leinster House, I’ll be using that position to fight for workers.”
