I twisted Rachel's arm to talk about sexism - Eoghan

Eoghan McDermott turned peace-maker recently after persuading Rachel Wyse to do his RTE show in the wake of the Joe Brolly controversy.

The Voice of Ireland presenter (31) managed to nab the Sky Sports correspondent for his early morning 2fm programme.

But Eoghan, who's fronting the Breakfast Republic for the next two weeks, said the blonde presenter needed some gentle persuasion.

"She point-blank refused to do any RTE stuff after Joe Brolly's comments so I gently twisted her arm," he said.

Baywatch

"If I recall, Joe said that she was a 'Baywatch babe' which was nonsense. That was even before the show started so it was a bit careless on his part."

RTE pundit Brolly later apologised to Wyse after describing Sky Sports' planned coverage as "TV3 plus Baywatch babe".

The spiky-haired personality has raided his bulging contacts book for his new show, which will begin this weekend.

He has a number of big names lined- up as he called on all his London-based pals to support him.

"I've a good few people lined up. Anyone I could hypothetically call on, I did," he said.

Love/Hate star Robert Sheehan is among his contributors, after he became Eoghan's neighbour in Camden, London

"When I was on radio over there, it was about three years ago, I was watching Misfits and I remember saying on air, 'I love that Irish guy. I want to get him on the show but I don't want to use any agents'.

"Then totally by chance, he moved into a house about 50 metres away from where I lived in Camden."

Another good pal lending her support will be MTV presenter Laura Whitmore, who was on Breakfast Republic yesterday morning, as well as singer Ed Sheeran. But despite being a relative newcomer to 2fm, Eoghan is taking his new gig in his stride and said it's "lovely" presenting.
