Liam Neeson’s son Michael has revealed he turned to drugs following the death of his mother Natasha Richardson.

Michael (19) said he had a delayed reaction to his mum’s death after a ski accident in Canada in 2009 and went into a spiral of heavy partying in New York.

Michael said that when the tragedy happened it was “devastating” but that he “either pushed it out or stored it deep inside.

“I was going out, partying a lot looking for self-gratification. I wanted to be the man doing these drugs.

“Everyone just said: ‘This kid has lost his mother – that is where the problem comes from’. And I was like ‘No, it isn’t, I just like to party’.

“Looking back, I realise it was a delayed reaction,” Michael added.

Michael said he turned his life around with wilderness therapy in Utah where he camped out in the desert for months.

He looks set to forge a career in fashion having interned at a tailor’s shop on Saville Row but hasn’t ruled out taking up the family business.

“Acting is a huge interest. I was brought up in a family of actors. But the last thing they want me to do is become one,” he said.
