'I slept with my girlfriend on our first date', reveals TV star Mateo
First Dates Ireland star Mateo Saina has said he slept with his girlfriend on their first date.
The maitre d', who comes from Croatia, has won over legions of fans for his front and centre role on the hit series.
While many singletons are apprehensive about going home with someone on the first date, Saina said if two people have chemistry, nothing should stop them.
"Of course [we did]. What are we waiting for? If the people click, what are you waiting for?" he said.
Although the TV star remained tight-lipped on the identity of his girlfriend, he said the pair have been together for several years.
While he may be madly in love, Saina admitted the couple have no plans to get married anytime soon.
"We met about five-and-a-half years ago. The question stands of when it's the right moment and the right time," he said.
"She just moved over here from Amsterdam, so it's a transition first.
"We had a long-distance relationship for three-and-a-half years."
However, not everyone who appears on the hit dating show agrees with the suave maitre d'.
"Even now you see on First Dates, you see lads saying: 'If you do it on the first date, it's no good to me'," he told 2fm's Breakfast Republic.
"It depends who you're with. If they're not agreeing, then you have an issue."
Saina is not the first celebrity to admit to getting frisky in the bedroom on a first date.
TV presenter and model Vogue Williams recently raised eyebrows when she said she slept with ex-husband Brian McFadden on their first date.
"My friend told me all these rules and I was like 'I can't be dealing with that, there's too many rules'. Me and Brian did hanky panky on the first date and we ended up getting married.
"I'm not saying I'd do that on every first date, but it worked out for a while. It just depends."
TV star and radio host Jennifer Maguire reckons there's a double standard on the issue, saying it's "mainly how women view other women".
