Spice Girl Melanie Brown joked about needing the money she'll make from the band's upcoming tour before saying: "I'm quite rich. I'm doing it because I love you girls."

Brown (Mel B), Melanie Chisholm (Mel C), Geri Horner and Emma Bunton will perform a six-date UK stadium tour next year - without Victoria Beckham.

Asked by Jamie Theakston on Heart radio, "which Spice Girl needs the money the most?", Brown replied: "Me, because I'm divorced."

Horner then said: "I love her honesty."

However, Brown later told the DJ: "Can I just rectify something? Actually I don't need the money. I'm quite rich. I'm just doing it because I love you girls."

The money was "secondary", she said.

Chisholm admitted that it was "tough" deciding to tour without Beckham "because obviously she is a huge part of the band".

Earlier, Horner was teased by her band-mates over her romance with Chris Evans as the Spice Girls dropped in to his BBC Radio 2 show to plug their reunion tour.

Horner, Brown and Chisholm gave their first interview as a group to the DJ, with Bunton speaking on the phone from her own rival show.

Brown used the opportunity to poke fun at Horner and Evans who had dated in the late 1990s.

When Evans said of his ex - now married to Christian Horner - "I know you inside out", Brown joked: "Literally, bo boom."

Horner said: "I knew you were going to bring that up. I thought, 'I'll give her five minutes'."

"Is it awkward?" Brown asked.

Evans replied: "It's never awkward... some of us get on with our exes."

Brown, who recently went through an acrimonious divorce from Stephen Belafonte, said: "Clearly I don't, never have done, never will."

When Evans asked who would be "driving the bus", he said of his ex-girlfriend: "I know she's not a good driver, that was one of our issues. I'm not joking... there were a few bumps on the road."

Brown said she had dreamt about the band getting back together.

"This is not my job, this is my life and my girls. I wouldn't be here without my girls," she said.

The band revealed nothing however, when Evans hinted at the possibility of more tour dates to be announced, saying: "I know for a fact that you've put some stadiums on hold."
