Hunt for jail brothers

Two brothers who escaped from their prison officer escorts after being released on compassionate grounds were still at large today.

The men, John and Patrick McDonagh, had been allowed out of Castlerea prison on Tuesday to view the remains of their brother, Martin.

Five prison officers were assigned to escort the two inmates to the funeral parlour, but about 40 men formed a human shield around them in the parlour, allowing the brothers to escape.

It is understood they were serving three-year sentences for assault.
