Hughie turns his tanning disaster into a business with own range
Hughie Maughan's fake- tanning disaster was the biggest talking points of the first series of RTE's Dancing With The Stars.
Now the former Big Brother contestant is seeking to turn his embarrassment into a business by bringing out his own range.
He confirmed on social media that he and partner Ryan Ruckledge are teaming up to bring out a new product called Rughie - the couple's nickname.
Hughie said he decided to take the plunge after some of his tanning disasters "trended worldwide" and became the most talked-about moment of the smash hit dancing show.
"I thought it was only fitting that I made my own tan with my boyfriend, called Rughie Tan," he said.
"We both love a tan and hate being pale, but we want to do it the safe way with a unisex brand in multiple shades from dark to light that's affordable and looks and smells good."
Hughie said he plans to launch the product, which will be available to buy online, in about a month's time.
He also shared a photo of himself from the night of his tanning disaster.
"Let's not end up like this," was the caption.
The Dubliner has al- ready received a positive reaction online, including a response from his dance partner on Dancing With The Stars, Emily Barker.
She said she was "so happy" for the couple and she would "definitely buy some".
Footage from Hughie's fake-tanning disaster on the second episode of the live show last January instantly went viral, with viewers questioning just how many layers he had applied.
At the time, he said he has put on "about 11 coatings".
The show had hired a group of professional tanning artists to give all the competing celebrities a glow.
But Hughie turned down their offers to give him a spray tan, saying he preferred to do it himself - with disastrous results.
While most viewers saw the funny side, the image of Hughie's over-the-top tan did not go down well in America, where he was mistakenly accused of doing 'black-face", a claim that he vehemently denied.
